Primary Community
The primary years in Montessori are extremely significant in laying the foundations for future learning. The children are in a prepared, ordered and safe environment where they are free to choose and learn at their own pace. The specially prepared mixed age environment fosters independence, social skills, problem solving skills and perseverance.
The environment is divided into many areas which focus on activities of everyday living, opportunities to explore through their senses, numeracy, language, culture, physical activity, arts and creativity. The materials are all designed to be child size and to pique their interest. Children are moved away from rote learning and education is child-centered.
